Actualmente, somos testigos del derrumbamiento del prestigio y autoridad docente. Son temas que requieren atención no solo de quienes administran las políticas educativas; sino también de los mismos educadores en aras de valorar adecuadamente su profesión desde la compleja responsabilidad y exigencias de la tarea educativa. El presente trabajo reflexiona acerca del ser profesor universitario y los retos que envuelve su ejercicio en vistas a la formación integral de los estudiantes. Se analizan las implicancias de la búsqueda de la verdad y el cultivo del saber docente en su unidad y diversidad. Finalmente, se concluye que ser profesor universitario es plantearse y replantear las cuestiones fundamentales de la verdad del ser, en la búsqueda de lo perenne y transitorio del enseñar porque la tarea educativa es una aventura digna de ser emprendida.
We are currently witnessing the collapse of the teaching authority’s prestige. These issues require attention not only of those who administer educational policies; but also educators themselves in order to properly assess their profession from the complex responsibilities and demands of the educational task. This paper reflects on the importance of being a university professor and the challenges that involve the exercise of it in light of the overall education of students. The implications of the search for truth and the cultivation of teachers’ knowledge in their unit and diversity are analyzed. Finally it is concluded that being a university professor is to consider and rethink the fundamental questions of the truth of being, in the constant search for the perennial and transient in teaching because the educational task is an adventure worthy of existence.
