Actuar intencionalmente: esbozo de una teoría de la intención

En este trabajo ofrezco un esbozo de una teoría de la intención. Propondré queactuar intencionalmente es, en términos generales, actuar según una intención. Sin embargo, el análisis completo de esta propuesta traerá consigo la discusión sobre qué se entiende por la noción de intención. Esto último depende, en cierto sentido, de cómo se explique el vínculo que existe entre intentar hacer algo y hacer ese algo intencionalmente o con cierta intención. En los dos apartados siguientes discutiré la teoría de la intención. Luego consideraré brevemente dos problemas relacionados con la idea de intención elucidada desde el fenómeno de los planes y la planificación. A continuación analizaré las intenciones sobre el futuro en su condición de insumos (inputs) y resultados (outputs) de razonamientos prácticos. Después bosquejaré la estructura básica de la acción intencional haciendo hincapié en la idea de plan de acción. Finalmente, consideraré un problema filosófico ligado a la idea de que la intención sobre el futuro constituye el caso central de intención: la intención en la acción o el caso de la acción intencional espontánea.
In this paper I offer a sketch of a theory of intention. Generally speaking, I propose that acting intentionally is acting with an intention. However, a complete analysis of this proposal will involve the discussion of what is meant by the notion of intention. The explanation of the link between intending to do something and doing something intentionally, or with a certain intention, is especially critical for apprehending this proposal. I claim is that to argue in favor of a philosophically interesting theory of intention involves subscribing the suggestion of analyzing the content of an intention in terms of the notion of an action plan. In the first two sections I discuss the theory of intention. After this, I consider two problems related to the idea of intention –elucidated from the phenomenon of both plans and planning activity. Then I sketch the basic structure of intentional action emphasizing the idea of an action plan. Finally, I discuss a philosophical problem against the claim that an intention oriented to the future constitutes a central case in the analysis of intention or acting intentionally, that is, the intention in action case or the spontaneous intentional action case.
