Para leer al Pato Donald, la obra con mayor difusión del campo de la comunicación en América Latina, no puede ser leída escindida de su contexto. Este artículo propone leerla en esa clave: en el marco del debate del proyecto político-cultural de la Unidad Popular, en un tiempo histórico caracterizado por la radicalización política. Armand Mattelart y Ariel Dorfman, como autores, y Para leer el Pato Donald, su texto emblemático, son emergentes de un contexto donde la denuncia del imperialismo y la dependencia acompañaban el proyecto de cambiarlo todo, desde la propiedad de los medios de producción hasta las imágenes de la industria cultural.
How to read Donald Duck (1971), the book with the greatest diffusion in the field of communication in Latin America, cannot be read apart from its context. This article proposes that interpretation: read the book in the framework of the debate on the political and cultural project of the Unidad Popular, in a historical time characterized by political radicalization. Armand Mattelart and Ariel Dorfman, as authors, and How to Read Donald Duck, his emblematic text, are emerging from a context where the denunciation of imperialism and dependency accompanied the project of changing everything, from the ownership of the means of production to the images of the cultural industry.
