Historia de las madres en occidente: repensar la maternidad

El objetivo del presente trabajo es profundizar sobre la historia de la concepción de la maternidad, enmarcándola como un proceso evolutivo y vital propio del desarrollo psicobiológico humano, pero con características diferentes en cada etapa histórica. Ser madre en la especie humana excede el hecho biológico y tiene un significado a nivel social, cultural, histórico y psicológico. Dos fenómenos han influído fuertemente a partir de la segunda mitad del Siglo XX - en la historia de la maternidad: los estados de bienestar,-especialmente en los países desarrollados- y el crecimiento de las ciencias biológicas en relación a la posibilidad a planificar los nacimientos. La maternidad recorre el camino desde la natural imposición en tanto ley natural hacia la elección. Se relatará cual fue la herencia helénica, latina y judeo –cristiana hasta llegar en su recorrido histórico a la revolución materna y a la maternidad elegida.
The purpose of this report is to go through the history of the maternity’s conception, set as an evolutive and vital process proper of psychological humans’ development, even though this subject has different characteristics in each historical stage. Motherhood in the human specie goes beyond of biological facts: but also has a social, cultural, historical and psychological meaning. This subject has been surrounded by two keys issues since the Second Half of the XX century: the Welfare States- mainly in West nations- and the increasing of biological disciplines linked to the possibility of planning births.Maternity becomes from a natural imposition to a personal election as a chosen maternity. It will be related which were the Hellenic, Latin and Jewish-Christian legacies until to arrive in this maternal revolution, this chosen maternity.
