La figura de Jerzy Grotowski y su libro Hacia un teatro pobre despertaron en Argentina el interés de las corrientes teatrales innovadoras del legendario Instituto Di Tella a fines de la década de los años sesenta. Sin embargo, tanto en los espectáculos neovanguardistas como en el discurso crítico, podía observarse una comprensión superficial y estereotipada de su poética. Sus concepciones filosóficas y prácticas alcanzaron, en cambio, una mayor organicidad en las tendencias vinculadas con la antropología teatral surgidas a comienzos de la democracia, que redescubrieron el fundamento del teatro en la "comunión perceptual, directa y viva" entre actor y espectador, preconizada por el maestro polaco.
In Argentina, towards the end of the 1960s, Jerzy Grotowski and his book Towards a Poor Theatre became a source of inspiration to those who worked on the innovation of theatre at the legendary Di Tella Institute. However, the understanding of his poetics by both neo-vanguardist performances and critical discourse remained superficial and stereotypical. It was not until the reestablishment of democracy in the country that Grotowski’s philosophical and technical notions were properly integrated into later performance trends linked with theatre anthropology. Artists rediscovered a kind of theatre that brought together performer and spectator in “direct and living perceptual communion”, as advocated by the Polish director.
