Locus de control: evolución de su concepto y operacionalización

Descripción: El estudio del locus de control, un importante recurso de afrontamiento que tiene gran relevancia como factor predictivo de otras variables actitudinales, afectivas y comportamentales, se inició hace ya muchos años. Con el correr del tiempo, se ha perfeccionando el entendimiento de este constructo y han ido surgiendo medidas cada vez mejores del mismo. Aunque en un comienzo se lo consideraba unidimensional, hoy se han llegado a medir, por lo menos, seis modalidades diferentes que lo integran. Este artículo propone al lector retroceder hasta las primeras conceptualizaciones respecto del locus de control, delineando cronológicamente, y de manera sintética, algunos de los hallazgos que posibilitaron entender el concepto desde una perspectiva multidimensional.
Research on the concept of locus of control began many years ago. Its importance stems from its relevance as an important coping resource as well as a predictive factor of other attitudinal, emotional and behavioural variables. Over the years the understanding of locus of control has improved and better ways of measuring this construct have emerged. Even though earlier on in history it was considered one– dimensional, currently there are at least six different dimensions which make up this construct. The following article invites the reader to review the history of the concept of locus of control, beginning with the first efforts at conceptualizing it. Furthermore, the author highlights some of the findings which today allow us to view locus of control from a multidimensional perspective.
