El primer intento histórico de relacionar un aspecto físico de un espacio con lo que se oye en su interior fue realizado por Wallace Sabine a finales del siglo XIX. La definición del tiempo de reverberación a la que arribó fue durante muchos años —y en parte aún lo es— la principal variable a considerar en el proyecto acústico de una sala.
Wallace Sabine made the first historical attempt in the late 19th century to connect the physical characteristics of a space to what is heard inside. His concept of reverberation time was, and still is, the most important factor to take into account when designing a room’s acoustics.
