Breve historia occidental del diseño de muebles (Parte 2) : La historia del diseño artesanal e industrial de la silla

Considerando que existen muchos libros sobre Historia del Arte que ilustran ejemplos del diseño de muebles desde los antiguos egipcios, pasando por las cortes europeas de Luis XIII, Luis XIV, Luis XV y Luis XVI entre otros de relevancia histórica; y que, por otro lado, también existen muchos libros de Historia del Diseño Industrial que ilustran ejemplos del diseño de muebles a partir de la Revolución Industrial del Reino Unido de Gran Bretaña de mitad del siglo XVIII en adelante. Se ha encontrado que estas dos áreas de estudio de las Ciencias Sociales (arte versus diseño) no están vinculadas por razones epistemológicas imposibles de discutir en tan breve espacio para un artículo. Razón por la cual, este ensayo nace de una idea innovadora sobre el análisis historiográfico del arte y el diseño (artesanal e industrial) de muebles. Habida cuenta de que en la revista ArtyHum nº 71, bajo el título “Breve historia occidental del diseño de muebles”, se abordó un estudio general del diseño de muebles y sus relaciones con la arquitectura. Aquí se pretende abordar un estudio pormenorizado del diseño de sillas, desde un enfoque mixto, híbrido y complejo del arte y el diseño artesanal e industrial (sin analizar sus vínculos con la Historia de la Arquitectura).
Considering that there are many books on Art History that illustrate examples of furniture design from the ancient Egyptians, through the European courts of Louis XIII, Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI among others of historical relevance; and that, on the other hand, there are also many Industrial Design History books that illustrate examples of furniture design from the Industrial Revolution of the United Kingdom of Great Britain from the mid-eighteenth century onwards. It has been found that these two areas of study of the Social Sciences (Art versus Design) are not linked for epistemological reasons impossible to discuss in such a short space for an article. Reason why, this essay is born from an innovative idea on the historiographic analysis of Art and Design (Artisanal and Industrial) of furniture. Given that in the ArtyHum magazine Nº 71, under the title “Brief western history of furniture design”, a general study of furniture Design and its relationship with Architecture was addressed. The aim here is to undertake a detailed study of chair Design, from a mixed, hybrid and complex approach to Art and Craft and Industrial Design (without analyzing its links with the History of Architecture).
