La humanidad, la facultad semiótica y la historia del entorno

La semiótica como disciplina tiene el objetivo de explicar el proceso mediante el cual a un determinado fenómeno se lo identifica mediante un conjunto de conceptos vigentes en una sociedad determinada, conjunto a cuya textualización designamos como su "significado". Asimismo deberá explicar también la eficacia de un determinado enunciado en cuanto a su capacidad para atribuir existencia ontológica a un determinado fenómeno, su referente, capacidad a la que identificamos con el término de "significación". El propósito de esta propuesta consiste en alcanzar este objetivo teniendo en cuenta el carácter histórico inherente a todo enunciado, así como inherente también al fenómeno construido desde tal enunciado, identificando las operaciones metodológicas necesarias para explicar el proceso de cambio involucrado. En esto consistiría la historia de la facultad semiótica, lamentablemente todavía no escrita, que habrá de proporcionarnos el registro progresivo de las transformaciones de las semiosis mediante las cuales la humanidad concretó su identidad al configurar su mundo, entendiendo por tal la transformación del entorno en función de sus capacidades cognitivas específicas.
Semiotics as discipline has the aim of explaining the process by which a given entity is identified through an set of concepts in force in a given society. The textualisation of this set is called its "meaning". Semiotics must also explain the effectiveness of a given utterance in conferring ontological existence to a given entity, its referent. I identify this effectiveness with the term "signification". This proposal is aimed to accomplish such explanation taking into account the historical character inherent to every utterance and to every entity constructed from such utterance. It requires the identification of the methodological operations in order to account for the corresponding process of change. The history of semiotic ability, unfortunately still not written, will furnish the progressive recording of the diverse semiosis by which human beings conform their identities in the shaping of their world. By world I mean the change of the environment as a response to their specific cognitive abilities.
