Abstract: In the year of South Africa’s first non-racial democratic election (1994), the country also became a member of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). During this time southern Africa has, deservedly, received a substantial amount of attention, most of it focusing on (traditional) regional security issues, the dynamics of regional economic integration/ co-operation, and regional development.
