Una madre entre padres, o la nula excepcionalidad de Il trovatore de Giuseppe Verdi

Resumen: El conflicto más recurrente en las óperas de Giuseppe Verdi se construye a menudo alrededor de un padre fuerte y poderoso cuyo amor posesivo destruye a su hijo o hija impidiéndoles su emancipación afectiva. El caso de Azucena de Il trovatore, única madre en todo el teatro verdiano, es generalmente considerado como una excepción en el marco de este modelo dramático paterno-filial. Intentaremos demostrar en este artículo que la figura de Azucena está muy lejos de ser una excepción y representa, por el contrario, una confirmación e intensificación del modelo paterno-filial, que se redefine, más allá de los géneros, como parental-filial, y que se identifica con un conflicto más raigal y complejo entre Verdi y sus orígenes (sus padres, su suegro, su paese, la tradición musical italiana, Dios).
Abstract: The most recurrent conflict in Verdi’s operas is often built up about a strong and powerful father whose possessive love destroys his son or daughter by restraining their affective emancipation. The case of Azucena from Il trovatore, the only mother in the whole Verdian theater, is generally considered as an exception in the frame of this paternal-filial pattern. We attempt to demonstrate in this article that the figure of Azucena is very far from being an exception and represents, on the contrary, a confirmation and intensification of the paternal-filial pattern, redefined as parental-filial beyond any gender and identified with a deeper and complex conflict between Verdi and his origins (his parents, his father in law, his paese, the Italian musical tradition, God ).
