La sabiduría como santidad en la leyenda tardo-medieval de Catalina de Alejandría (Ms. Esc. h-I-13)

Resumen: Santa Catalina de Alejandría, mártir cristiana del siglo IV, se distingue por su sabiduría como el rasgo más característico de una santidad que la ha posicionado a través del tiempo esencialmente como patrona de escolares, estudiantes y educadores, a pesar de los múltiples emblemas asociados a su figura como esposa mística de Cristo y con su suplicio legendario a través de un artefacto construido a partir de una rueda. Su elocuencia, que según la leyenda le permite vencer a los cincuenta sabios defensores del poder imperial del malvado Majencio, se configura formal y argumentativamente en el traslado de su historia del latín a las lenguas vernáculas, en las cuales la dinámica del debate se vuelve el eje central de un cambio educativo representativo de la clerecía letrada del siglo XIII y sus impulsos ejemplares, lo que se analizará en la versión en prosa de la leyenda que integra el Ms. Esc. h-I-13 del siglo XIV.
Abstract: St. Catherine of Alexandria, 4th century Christian martyr, is distinguished by her wisdom as the most characteristic feature of a sanctity which has positioned her over time essentially as patron saint of students and educators, despite the many emblems associated with her figure as the mystical wife of Christ and with her legendary torment through a device built from a wheel. Her eloquence, which according to legend let her beat the fifty wise defenders of the imperial power, is configured formally and argumentatively in the passage of her history from Latin to vernacular languages. That way the dynamics of the debate become the focus of an educational change representative of the 13th century learned clergy and its exemplary impulses, which will be analyzed in the MS h-I-13 14th century prose version of the legend.
