Resumen: Evidenciando su desmesura, el transhumanismo pretende recurrir a las biotecnologías reproductivas con la pretensión de superar las limitaciones biológicas del cuerpo humano, seleccionando las características genéticas de la descendencia (beneficencia procreativa). Con fundamento en el principio de la dignidad humana y el reconocimiento de los derechos fundamentales, en este trabajo se hace una valoración del objetivo enunciado tanto como de los medios propuestos para lograrlo. Sólo una dimensión ontológica de la dignidad, que exige el respeto de la vida humana y la originalidad de su forma de transmisión, ofrece fundamento fuerte para responder a estos desafíos.
Abstract: Transhumanism intends to overcome the biological limitations of the human body, selecting the genetic characteristics of the offspring using reproductive biotechnologies (procreative beneficence). Based on the principle of human dignity and the recognition of fundamental rights, this paper makes an assessment of the objective mentioned before as well as the means proposed to achieve it. Only an ontological understanding of human dignity, which requires to respect the right to life of human beings and the originality of the transmission of life, offers a strong foundation to respond to these challenges.
