Las sociedades cristianas han experimentado crecientemente las consecuencias del secularismo posmoderno. Una de ellas ha sido el cierre de iglesias que anteriormente fueron centros activos y congregantes, resultando en una comunidad susceptible de desaparecer. Si bien es claro que la Iglesia prefiere ante todo la permanencia de estas iglesias en uso, la legislación ha ido variando de modo que, a partir del Concilio Vaticano II, a la par que se determinó explícitamente el derecho objetivo de los fieles de entrar a los edificios sagrados para el culto divino público y privado, y se expandió el derecho subjetivo para que no dependiera de factores determinantes respecto del mismo culto, se ha extendido la autoridad de los obispos para restringir, e incluso extinguir, este derecho...
