En los departamentos de Montecarlo y Eldorado de la provincia de Misiones, Argentina las Pymes madereras contribuyeron al desarrollo socioeconómico y a la construcción de la identidad de este territorio. Para caracterizar a los empresarios Pymes en el marco conceptual del emprendedor, y conocer sus modos de Gestión empresarial y su aporte al desarrollo del territorio, se realizó unainvestigación cualitativa y etnográfica, especialmente a través de visitas a las empresas y de entrevistas a los empresarios. Del análisis de las mismas se infiere que fueron la pasión y el entusiasmo los que marcaron sus inicios e impulsaron su desarrollo; y que sus esfuerzos se enfocan principalmente en la incorporación de tecnología, la ampliación de la capacidad instalada y la diversificación de productos y mercados. A su vez presentan debilidades en las áreas de la Planificación a mediano y largo plazo y en la Gestión del personal, las que sumadas a otros factores de los diferentes niveles del contexto, reducen la sustentabilidad de las empresas y la competitividad sistémica de la cadena.
In the Departments of Montecarlo and Eldorado in the province of Misiones, Argentina, the Small & Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs) lumber and wood industries had contributed to the socioeconomic development and to the construction of the identity of the territory. In order to characterize the businessmen of the SMEs as enterpreneurs and to know their ways of business administration and their contribution to the development of the territory, a qualitative and ethnographic research was carried out especially done by means of visits to the firms and by interviews to the managers. It emerged from this research, that it was specially the passion and the enthusiasm what marked their beginnings and boosted their evolution and that they focus their efforts basically in the incorporation of technology, the expansion of the installed capacity, and the diversification of the products and the markets. At the same time weaknesses in the medium and long term planning areas and in the human resource management are also presented which added to other factors of the different levels of the context reduce the sustainability of the SMEs and the systemic competitiveness of the chain.
