En este artículo nos proponemos delinear el núcleo del pensamiento on-tológico de Tomás de Aquino sobre la cuestión de la distinción real y de la diferencia ontológica, destacando la superación del platonismo y del aristotelismo. Siguiendo las enseñanzas de los grandes tomistas continentales del siglo xx, Etienne Gilson y Cornelio Fabro, intentaremos resumir en pocas páginas lo que nos parece que cons-tituye el contenido medular de la ontología tomista y su giro en torno al tema del ser, asumiendo ciertas apreciaciones críticas de tomistas anglosajones más recien-tes, como Lawrence Dewan y Stephen Brock, que reclaman mayor atención hacia el tema de la esencia. A tal fin, abordaremos tanto la distinción real entre ser y esencia como la diferencia ontológica entre ser y ente; estableceremos la relación entre el ámbito de lo finito y de lo infinito, así como también nos detendremos en el vínculo que entre ambos instaura la causalidad y la participación. No se pretende aquí agotar ninguna de las instancias mencionadas, sino más bien lograr una comprensión sinóptica que responde a los intereses de quien escribe estas líneas.
In this article we propose to delineate the core of the ontological thought of Thomas Aquinas around the question of real distinction and ontological difference, highlighting the overcoming of Platonism and Aristotelianism. Following the teachings of the great continental tomists of the 20th century, Etienne Gilson and Cornelius Fabro, we will try to summarize in a few pages what seems to us to cons-titute the core content of the Thomistic ontology and its turn around the topic of being, assuming certain critical appreciations of more recent Anglo-Saxon Tho-mists, such as Lawrence Dewan and Stephen Brock, who call for more attention to the topic of essence. For that purpose, we will address both the real distinction between being and essence and the ontological difference between being and entity; we will establish the relationship between the finite and the infinite, as well as we will stop at the link between causality and participation. It is not intended here to exhaust any of the instances mentioned, but rather to achieve a synoptic understanding that responds to the interests of who writes these lines.
