Los tapietes (tupí-guaraní) constituyen uno de los grupos indígenas de reciente descripción en la Argentina. En los últimos años, este pueblo, que habita en Paraguay, Bolivia y Argentina, ha comenzado a ser estudiado desde un punto de vista lingüístico y etnográfico. El presente artículo aborda el estudio de un aspecto de la cultura tapiete como es el conocimiento de la diversidad botánica de la región del chaco salteño desde las perspectivas de la lingüística antropológica y de la etnobotánica. A partir del trabajo de campo realizado con los tapietes de Argentina, este artículo brinda los primeros resultados de una investigación interdisciplinaria sobre la etnobotánica tapiete, abordando, específicamente, el léxico etnobotánico. Se describen los principales mecanismos de formación de nombres de plantas en tapiete como paso preliminar y necesario para dilucidar los principios que subyacen a la clasificación taxonómica del mundo vegetal entre los tapietes.
Tapietes (Tupi-Guarani) are one of the indigenous groups of recent description in Argentina. In the last years, linguistic and ethnographic fieldwork has been carried out among this people who live in Paraguay, Bolivia and Argentina. This article discusses, from a linguistic and an ethnobotanic perspective, a particular aspect of Tapiete culture such as the knowledge of the botanic diversity of the Chaco region in the province of Salta. From fieldwork conducted among the Tapietes in Argentina, it presents the first results of an interdisciplinary research on Tapiete ethnobotany, discussing specifically the ethnobotanic vocabulary. The main mechanisms of formation of names of plants are described as a preliminary and essential step to elucidate the principles that underlie the taxonomic classification of the vegetal world among the Tapietes
