Continuidad y novedad del ethos neoleonés

El presente artículo se pregunta por la existencia de un ethos neoleonés. A partir del triunfo de dos candidatos a gobernador que pusieron en jaque el bipartidismo neoleonés: Jaime Rodríguez Calderón el Bronco, y Samuel García Sepúlveda, realizamos un análisis discursivo de ambos candidatos mediante sus actos de toma de posesión y sus cierres de campaña. Afirmamos provisionalmente que ambos comparten al menos tres características: a) un antagonismo entre el centro y el norte del país; b) un discurso empresarial, crítico de los programas sociales; y c) el elemento más reciente sería un contraste entre la ‘nueva’ y la ‘vieja’ política. Destacamos a las primeras dos como propias de una identidad neoleonesa histórica, y en la tercera tensionamos estos dos ítems, para preguntarnos si la nueva política significó un cambio identitario. De esta manera, discutimos la relación entre la novedad y la tradición, así como la relación entre forma-contenido.
The present article questions the existence of a Nuevo Leon’s ethos. Due to the victory of two candidates for governor that challenged the two-party system of Nuevo Leon: Jaime Rodriguez Calderon el Bronco, and Samuel Garcia Sepulveda, we do a discourse analysis of both candidates using their inaugural speech and their acts of closing campaigns. Provisionally, we affirm that both candidates share at least three characteristics: a) an antagonism between the centre of the country and the north; b) a business discourse or culture that criticizes social programs; c) the most recent element would be the contrast between the ‘new’ and the ‘old’ politics. We highlight the first two as part of Nuevo Leon’s historic identity, and we tense the last one with the first ones to put into question if the new politics meant an identity change. In this way, we discuss the relationship between novelty and tradition, as well as the relationship between form and content.
