La teoría queer y las narrativas progresistas de identidad

El objetivo de este trabajo es investigar ciertos problemas y desafíos de la teoría queer en su análisis de la transexualidad, y reflexionar sobre el vínculo entre las teorías de género y lo que denominaremos las “narrativas progresistas de identidad”. Para eso, consideraremos algunas objeciones que aparecen en el libro Second Skins: the Body Narratives of Transexuality de Jay Prosser. En particular, examinaremos su crítica a Judith Butler y Jack Halberstam, con el fin de extraer algunas conclusiones que den cuenta de la relación intrínseca que existe entre la estructura narrativa de las teorías de género y la valoración del grado de autenticidad y transgresión de las identidades de género.
The aim of this paper is to investigate certain problems and challenges of queer theory in its analysis of transsexuality and to reflect on the connection between gender theories and what we will call “progressive identity narratives”. In order to do this, we will consider some objections that appear in Second Skins: the Body Narratives of Transexuality, by Jay Prosser. In particular, we will examine how Judith Butler and Jack Halberstam have been criticized by Prosser, so we can extract some conclusions about the intrinsic relation between the narrative structure of gender theories and the valuation of the degree of authenticity and transgression of gender identities.
