El legado del Dependentismo Latinoamericano y la puntualidad del concepto de dependencia. El artículo explora los orígenes conceptuales de los problemas de dependencia en América Latina y el surgimiento de teorías de dependencia a partir de mediados de los años sesenta. La atención se centra en el entorno social y científico de Chile. Primero, se muestran aquellas tradiciones intelectuales y contextos académicos en los que se originaron las teorías de dependencia. Posteriormente, se examinarán en detalle cuatro grupos de trabajo teóricos de dependencia para presentar su anclaje institucional y sus prioridades temáticas. El artículo finaliza con una evaluación de los enfoques teóricos de dependencia con respecto a su importancia en el campo de las ciencias sociales latinoamericanas. El autor sostiene que los enfoques teóricos de dependencia podrían contribuir significativamente a la comprensión del subdesarrollo.
Der Artikel untersucht die konzeptionellen Ursprünge der Abhängigkeitsproblematik in Lateinamerika sowie die Entstehung der Dependenztheorien ab Mitte der 1960er Jahre. Der Fokus liegt dabei auf dem gesellschaftlichen und wissenschaftlichen Umfeld in Chile. Zuerst werden jene intellektuellen Traditionen und akademischen Kontexte aufgezeigt, in denen die Dependenztheorien ihren Ursprung nahmen. Im Anschluss werden vier dependenztheoretische Arbeitsgruppen näher beleuchtet, um deren institutionelle Verankerung sowie thematischen Schwerpunkte darzustellen. Der Artikel endet mit einer Einschätzung dependenztheoretischer Ansätze hinsichtlich ihrer Bedeutung im Feld der lateinamerikanischen Sozialwissenschaften. The article examines the conceptual origins of the dependency issue in Latin America and the formation of dependency theories in the 1960s, and focuses on the social and scientific environment in Chile. First, we identify the intellectual traditions and academic surroundings that provided the basis for the emergence of dependency theories. Second, we depict four working groups which dealt with different aspects of dependency, in order to highlight their institutional setting, as well as the main focus of their investigations. Finally, we conclude by assessing the contribution of dependency theories to Latin American social sciences. We hold that dependency theories have extended and deepened the comprehension of underdevelopment. However, these theories did not consider the problem of academic dependence, a problem which contributed to their own marginalisation. In order to reformulate the dependency paradigm, this omission has to be taken into account.
