Comportamiento conjunto de altura geopotencial de 500 hPa sobre India y Sudamérica

Un método simple de clasificación de mapas que hace uso del coeficiente de correlación fue utilizado para obtener las estructuras más representativas del comportamiento conjunto de anomalías estandarizadas de altura geopotencial de 500 hPa sobre el subcontinente indio y Sudamérica para el período 1985-2011. El valor del coeficiente de correlación límite fue variado entre 0.70 y 0.90. En todos los casos, las dos estructuras más representativas son características del verano y el invierno boreales. Una de ellas corresponde al invierno boreal y presenta anomalías negativas en el norte de India asociadas con un calentamiento anómalo en la Zona de Convergencia Intertropical que en el sur de Sudamérica puede asociarse con anticiclogénesis. La otra estructura representa un centro ciclónico segregado, característico de la etapa madura del monzón, ubicado sobre el centrooeste de India, mientras que simultáneamente sobre el sur de Sudamérica puede identificarse una región de características ciclogenéticas sobre la Patagonia. La tercera de las estructuras, asociada con la convección en latitudes tropicales, muestra condiciones pre- y post-monzón sobre India y anomalías ciclónicas en el sur de Sudamérica.
A simple method for the classification of maps that uses the correlation coefficient was carried out in order to obtain the most representative structures for the joint behavior of the 500 hPa standardized geopotential height anomalies over the Indian subcontinent and South America for the period 1985-2011. The correlation coefficient threshold ranged from 0.70 to 0.90. In all cases, the two most representative structures are characteristic of either the summer or the boreal winter. One of these structures corresponds to the boreal winter and shows negative anomalies in the northern portion of India associated with an anomalous heating in the Intertropical Convergence Zone, whereas southern South America has anomalies that are characteristic of anticyclogenesis. The second structure has a cut-off cyclone situated over the central-eastern coast of India, a feature of the mature stages of the monsoon in the region, whereas cyclogenetic anomalies occur over the Patagonia in southern South America. The third most representative structure is associated with convection in the Tropics and is linked to pre- and postmonsoon conditions over India and cyclonic anomalies in southern South America.
