Parece que una de las máximas aspiraciones del traductor es trabajar codo a codo con el autor del texto traducido. Este artículo tiene dos propósitos: Uno, ver si esta conocida aspiración puede ser matizada o desechada. Otro, partiendo de la base de que el autor tratado era un gran conocedor de la lengua meta, analizar si su hipotética ayuda habría contribuido a lograr una «mejor» («más precisa», «más fiel») traducción.
It appears to be the most desiroble thing for the translator to have the possibility of working together with the original author. The purgóse ofthis paper is twofold: on the orre hand, to see ifthis common assumption maysomehow be challenged or opposed. On the second hand, having in mind that the author I am to deaI with knew very well the target language, to appreciate whether this hypothetical help may result in a 'better'('more accurate,' 'more faithful') translation or not.
