<i>La Grande</i>: regreso oriental y memoria de la inmigración

En La Grande (2005), novela póstuma e inconclusa de Juan José Saer, la dimensión autobiográfica de la escritura se establece alrededor del retorno, proyectada tanto sobre el viejo personaje de Willy Gutiérrez como sobre Nula, el "nuevo" de la zona. El episodio familiar de este personaje le permite a Saer rescatar la memoria de su infancia como hijo de inmigrantes sirios, un aspecto casi siempre soslayado en los estudios sobre la novela y en las propias autofiguraciones del escritor. Se observará en primer lugar cómo Saer reescribe el tópico del nostos a partir del exilio religioso de sus familiares árabes. En segundo lugar, se estudiará cómo, apelando a la memoria de su infancia, orientaliza la zona, incorporando una serie de referencias culturales y lingüísticas del mundo árabe a partir de las cuales reescribe el paisaje local. Como se verá, Saer subrayará la posible asimilación entre los universos culturales árabe y criollo, en detrimento de otras representaciones que agudizaban lo exótico. Por último, esta memoria de sus antepasados será leída como un homenaje tardío a José Pedroni, importante en los "inicios" de su aprendizaje literario.
In La Grande (2005), a posthumous and inconclusive Juan José Saer's novel, the autobiographical dimension of writing is established around the return, projected on both the old character of Willy Gutiérrez and on Nula, the "new" of the zona. The family episode of this character allows Saer to rescue the memory of his childhood as the son of Syrian immigrants, an aspect usually overlooked in the studies about the novel and in the writer's own self-figurations. It will be observed in the first place how Saer rewrites the topic of nostos in relation to the religious exile of his Arab relatives. Secondly, we will study how, appealing to the memory of his childhood, he orientalizes the zona, incorporating a series of cultural and linguistic references from the Arab world, from which he rewrites the local landscape. As will be seen, Saer will highlight the possible assimilation between the Arab and Criollo cultural universes, to the detriment of other representations that exacerbated the exotic. Finally, this memory of his ancestors will be read as a late tribute to José Pedroni, important in the "beginnings" of his literary learning.
