- Interactions between trees can have a positive or negative impact on their growth and mortality within mixed stands. Interaction type will depend on the species combined, age, ecological requirements and the microclimatic environment. The aim was to evaluate symmetrically and asymmetrically competition in A. angustifolia stands with natural regeneration of other timber trees. Competition indexes based on IDR were calculated for A. angustifolia and two groups of native forest species with different light requirements. The competition within A. angustifolia is more relevant than competition performed by natural regenerated trees. These A. angustifolia stands are proper to produce timber of multiple native species.
