Centenario del genocidio armenio: recordar y exigir

Al conmemorarse el centenario del Genocidio Armenio, este trabajo aborda las circunstancias que lo provocaron; el drama de las víctimas exterminadas u obligadas a abandonar su patria sometidas a terribles condiciones; la lucha por lograr el reconocimiento internacional que significó hace tres décadas en el ámbito de la ONU, haber logrado la inclusión del genocidio como uno de los crímenes que azotaron el siglo XX; la actitud negacionista y obstruccionista de Turquía así como la de muchos Estados que son actores principales en el escenario mundial y prefieren priorizar sus intereses estratégicos por encima de elementales obligaciones de respeto al universal derecho humano a la verdad. También hay referencias a la generosa acogida del pueblo argentino hacia el colectivo armenio que llegó a estas tierras escapando de la barbarie.
At the time of the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide, this paper focuses on the circumstances that cause it, the drama of the victims who were exterminated or obliged to abandon their country under terrible conditions, the fight for achieving, three decades ago, the international recognition that meant the inclusion of the genocide in the UN as one of the crimes that hit the 20th century; the denial and the obstructive attitude of Turkey as well as that of many other states which are key actors in the international scenario and tend to prioritize their strategic interests instead of the elemental obligations of respect to the universal human right to the truth. Apart from that, there are also references the generous welcome of the Argentinian people towards the Armenians that arrived to this land escaping from the barbarity.
