El turismo en Argentina y países limítrofes: una aplicación de modelos gravitacionales de comercio al turismo

El objetivo de este trabajo es conocer los determinantes de los flujos de turismo entre Argentina, Brasil, Chile y Uruguay (bloque regional), y entre estos países y el resto del mundo, discriminando el origen de los turistas. Partiendo de los modelos gravitacionales, se establece la importancia de factores tales como la distancia entre países o el PBI de los países emisores de turismo. Se estima un modelo de datos de panel bajo la especificación de efectos fijos, distinguiendo un modelo general, uno intra-bloque, y uno extra-bloque. Los resultados muestran la importancia de la población y el PBl per cápita, tanto de los países emisores como receptores, que afectan positivamente a los flujos de turismo. El “precio” del destino también influye en la elección de los turistas. Se presentan algunas diferencias en la importancia relativa de estas variables según si el modelo considera los flujos de turismo totales o acotados al bloque regional.
The aim of this paper is to explore the determinants of the flows of tourism among Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay (regional block), and between these countries and the rest of the world, discerning the origin of the tourists. Departing from the gravitational models, we establish the importance of factors such as the distance between countries or the GDP of the emissive countries of tourism. We estimate a model of panel data under the specification of fixed effects, distinguishing among a general model, an intra-block model, and an extra-block one. The results show the importance of the population and the GDP per capita, both in the case of emissive as well as receptive countries, which positively affect the flows of tourism. The price of the destiny also influences the choice of the tourists. Data present some differences in the relative importance of these variables according to whether the model considers the total flows of tourism or those restricted to the regional block.
