Imagen que te quiero sonido: del arte sinestésico al cine psíquico

Este artículo investiga la intersección entre la sinestesia —fenómeno neurológico de cruce sensorial— y las estrategias estéticas del cine abstracto, desde las experiencias futuristas de Bruno Corra hasta el cine estructural de James Whitney, creadores que tendieron puentes entre sonido y color. Partiendo del supuesto de que sus obras buscan alterar intencionalmente la fisiología de la percepción del espectador, analizamos cómo técnicas como luz pulsante, abstracción geométrica y montaje no narrativo inducen estados sensoriales híbridos. El estudio recurre a fuentes históricas —los manifiestos futuristas de Corra— y análisis fílmicos —de obras como Lapis, 1966, de Whitney—. Se concluye que estas piezas no solo exploran la plasticidad sensorial, sino que también cuestionan los límites entre arte y neurociencia.
This article investigates the intersection between synesthesia (a neurological phenomenon of sensory crossover) and the aesthetic strategies of abstract Cinema, from the Futurist experiences of Bruno Corra to the Structural Films of James Whitney, creators who built bridges between sound and color. Starting from the premise tha their works intentionally seek to alter the viewer’s perceptual physiology, we analyze how techniques such as pulsating light, geometric abstraction, and non-narrative montage induce hybrid sensory states. The study draws on historical sources (Corra’s Futurist Manifestos) and film analysis (Whitney’s Lapis, 1966). It concludes these pieces not only explore sensory plasticity but also question the boundaries between art and neuroscience.
