El texto retoma la novela The Rise of the Meritocracy, escrita por Michael Young y publicada en 1958, con el fin de pensar la categoría «meritocracia» y la noción de mérito, tanto en la ficción como en la actualidad. Desde ese plano, el análisis aporta conceptos vinculados a las matrices aristocráticas, los poderes hegemónicos y las representaciones que permiten reflexionar sobre los discursos políticos y las legitimaciones construidas desde el sentido común.
The text takes up the novel The Rise of the Meritocracy, written by Michael Young and published in 1958, in order to think about the category «meritocracy» and the notion of merit, both in fiction and today. From this plane, the analysis provides concepts linked to aristocratic matrices, hegemonic powers and representations that allow us to reflect on political discourses and legitimations built from common sense.
