I focus on the questions devoted by Thomas to the Augustinian pair ratio superior and ratio inferior. The analysis leads to the field of the virtue of wisdom. The Augustinian source (De Trinitate, XII), in which these topics are addressed, touches on other issues, such as degeneration of reason into sensuality and the relationship between man and woman, which seem to be completely extrinsic for a definition of the concept of reason. Our attempt is to redeem the significance of these questions in this regard, through the intimate link between wisdom and the reality of love.
