Resumen: ¿Qué relaciones personales hubo entre los escritores Jorge Luis Borges y Miguel de Unamuno? ¿En qué medida se leyeron mutuamente y cuándo? Sobre todo: ¿en qué medida y en qué aspectos la lectura crítica de Unamuno por parte de Borges fue fecunda para éste? Son las cuestiones que explora este artículo, que pone de relieve, entre desacuerdos aparentes y continuidades secretas (e inversamente), una impronta unamuniana mucho más significativa de la que se suele considerar (la bibliografía es atípicamente parca, y tiende a limitarse a contrastes temáticos), y llega a formular la hipótesis de que la figura y la obra de Unamuno desempeñaron, a distintos respectos, un doble papel de modelo y de contra-modelo.
Abstract: What kind of personal relationship was there between Jorge Luis Borges and Miguel de Unamuno? To what extent did they read each other and when? Above all: to what extent and in which aspects the critical reading of Unamuno’s work was fruitful for Borges? These are the questions explored in the present paper that highlights, amongst apparent discrepancies and secret continuities, a much more significant “unamunian” mark than the one typically considered (bibliography is unusually thin and tends to be limited to thematical contrasts). It also leads to the hypothesis that both Unamuno’s figure and work play, in different respects, a double role of model and counter-model.
