Resumen: La relación médico-paciente es considerada piedra angular de la práctica clínica. Para establecerla adecuadamente y abordar no solo la dimensión física, sino también la dimensión psíquica y espiritual de la persona, se requieren capacidad, maestría y arte por parte del médico para poder interactuar y establecer el diálogo con su paciente. En este trabajo se revisa la importancia de implementar acciones tales como trasmitir confianza y seguridad, demostrar paciencia y cortesía, asegurar la privacidad y la confidencialidad, respetar la intimidad del paciente. La relación médico paciente se describe medular en la profesión médica, y se le reconoce el poder de movilizar fuerzas humanas como la fe, la esperanza y la fortaleza moral, para lograr la aceptación de la adversidad que representa el estar enfermo. Se señala la importancia de informar al paciente su condición de salud, diagnóstico, pronóstico y tratamiento indicado, considerando que esta obligación no transfiere al paciente la responsabilidad por el acto médico, sino que le da la posibilidad de interferir en el tratamiento, opinar sobre lo que se hará con su cuerpo y, consecuentemente, hacer elecciones que van a definir su calidad de vida.
Abstract: The doctor-patient relationship is considered the cornerstone of clinical practice. Establishing it properly requires not only review the physical dimension, but also the psychic and spiritual dimension of the person, the ability, expertise and art of the physician to interact and establish dialogue with his patient. This paper reviews the importance of implementing actions such as transmitting trust and security, demonstrating patience and courtesy, ensuring privacy and confidentiality, respecting the privacy of the patient. The doctor-patient relationship is described in the medical profession, and it is recognized the power to mobilize human forces such as faith, hope and moral strength, to achieve acceptance of the adversity represented by being sick. Points out the importance of informing the patient of his or her health condition, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment indicated, considering that this obligation does not transfer responsibility for the medical act to the patient, but gives the patient the possibility of interfering in the treatment, to have an opinion on what will be done with his body and, consequently, to make choices that will define his quality of life.
