Objectives: To investigate the effect of constructive direction (layer orientation) on dimensional changes in a provisional partial multiple dental restoration on SLA and DLP printers. Methods: Forty (40) temporary fixed partial restorations were printed with a hybrid composite resin using SLA and DLP additive printing technology. Two impression groups were formed, in addition to two groups according to the construction process (layer orientation) of said restorations. Results: The differences between the dimensions of prosthetic impressions made with SLA and DLP printers were one tenth of a millimeter (0.086 mm on average), which is equivalent to a percentage difference of 0.4%, with the larger sizes corresponding to use of the DLP system. In the vertical orientation, the dimensions were somewhat larger than those printed in the horizontal direction (0.038 mm on average), although in this case it is only a 0.2% variation between construction directions. Regarding the volumetric variations occurring 24 hours after printing, a significant dimensional reduction or contraction was verified (p <0.05); the mean reduction was 0.3% (0.056 mm). Conclusions: The magnitude of the effects on dimensional variations can be seen first in the printing technology used (0.4%), then the consideration of the time factor (0.3%) and finally the orientation factor (0.2%).
