Educacion en la epica: Los discursos sapienciales en el Mahabharata

En los últimos años, nuestra investigación ha llevado adelante un programa de estudios que tenía por objeto mostrar la naturaleza y función pedagógica y educativa dentro de textos orientales, principalmente del Medioevo hindú; en este caso de la épica del Mahâbhârata. En estos trabajos hemos señalado la confluencia del mito y de la historia como dos dimensiones no contradictorias, en los cuales el mito y el símbolo traducen la fusión relevante en la comprensión y el esclarecimiento del ser humano y de la urgente necesidad de restablecer el contacto con su interioridad a fin de desplegar una vida más coherente, sana, integra y axiológicamente significativa para él y su comunidad. En este sentido, el aporte de todas las tradiciones, religiones y filosofías constituyen una fuente innegable y valiosa a la hora de abordar la complejidad del ser humano.
In a reality full of conflicts and deeply rooted in materialism, traditional education does not seem to be able to transmit values with the dept and understanding that they deserve. Hectic lifestyles and human tendency to focus on the ephemeral gives way to impulsive and thoughtless decision making, and the need to turn our look inwards becomes imperative. This paper proposes the integration into traditional teaching of the study of oriental texts, which can be a valuable pedagogical tool, capable of providing meaning to a variety of concepts related to ethics, human behavior, and human relationships. Fragments of the Indian epic poem Mahâbhârata and, especially, those related to the figure the wise uncle Vidura, are included in order to illustrate the aforementioned potential of the analysis of stories, legends, and myths. Vidura’s words exemplify the close connection between knowledge and reflection, intelligence, and understanding. It is through them that values and ethics are recovered and resignified, triggering deep learning processes.
