La fotografía fue un instrumento siempre presente en la historia de las instituciones neuro-psiquiátricas. Cuando sobreviven, junto a otros documentos, siempre difíciles de encontrar, su preservación nos permite conocer las funciones explícitas e implícitas de esos institutos, rastreando las ideas que fundamentan el origen y registro de las actividades habituales en esa clase de establecimientos. Este artículo se propone revelar esas dimensiones en los primeros años de funcionamiento de la Colonia Nacional de Alienados, entre 1901 y 1930, como demostración quizá de los potenciales usos que se puede dar a esas imágenes y testimonios.
The photographs was an instrument always present in the history of institutions neuropsychiatric. When they survive, along with other documents, always rare to find, their preservation allows us to know the explicit and implicit functions of these institutes, tracing the ideas that support the origin and registration of the usual activities in that class of establishments. This paper This article aims to reveal those hidden dimensions in the first years of operation of the National Alienated Colony, between 1901 and 1930, as a demonstration of the potential uses that can be given to these images and testimonies.
