Purmamarca y su belleza policromática: Fotografía y descripción geográfica en la construcción de los lugares

El objetivo es estudiar la emergencia de una imagen que se ha transformado en una de las típicas "postales argentinas", aquella que muestra al Cerro de Siete Colores de la localidad de Purmamarca, provincia de Jujuy. En realidad, no se trata de una, sino de dos, tomadas desde diferentes puntos de observación. La relevancia adquirida por el lugar y, como parte de ello, su imagen más representativa, se relaciona con el boom turístico que vivió esa provincia, que tuvo a Purmamarca como uno de sus principales nodos. De todas formas, la individualización de la referida imagen no se vincula solamente con el turismo. Así, nos proponemos identificar y estudiar diferentes narraciones sobre el lugar que colaboraron en la construcción imaginaria del lugar. Para ello hemos revisado tres tipos de obras geográficas: relatos de viajeros, libros de geografía y guías turísticas. En esos documentos hemos centrado la atención en las fotografías incluidas (y a veces también las omitidas) y las descripciones geográficas sobre Purmamarca. Analizamos cómo y en qué momentos se fue individualizando al Cerro de los Sietes Colores como ícono paisajístico y qué atributos se le fueron asociando.
The aim of this paper is to study the emergence of an image that has become one of thetypical "Argentine postcard", one that shows the Cerro de Siete Colores (Hill of Seven Colors) locatedin the town of Purmamarca, province of Jujuy. In fact, this is not just one, but two, taken from differentviewpoints. The importance acquired by the place, and by its representative image, is related to thetourism boom that province have experienced, where Purmamarca is one of the principal nodes.However, the identification of that image is not only connected with tourism, but also with otherprocesses (that contributed) as the activation of the Integration axis that got through Purmamarca(1991), Argentina's economic crisis of the early XXI century and the declaration of the Quebrada deHumahuaca as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (2003), among other events. Thus, we aim toidentify and study different narratives about the place that helped to its imaginary construction, inparticular, as a tourist destination. So we've reviewed three types of geographical works (from abroader perspective): travelers' tales, teaching books of geography and guidebooks. In those documents, we focused our attention on the photographs included (and sometimes also omitted) andthe descriptions of Purmamarca. Through these visual and textual representations we analyzed howand in which moments was individualizing the Cerro de los Siete Colores as landscape icon and whatattributes have been connected to this hill
