Entre Caliban y Ariel: Apuntes para una lectura sobre la identidad en el pensamiento teórico-literario de América Latina

Este trabajo se presenta como una aproximación a la obra shakesperiana La tempestad para analizar principalmente a los personajes concepto Caliban y Ariel. Esas figuras, a mediados del siglo XX, fueron retomados por una serie de autores –Rodó, Darío, Martí, Césaire, entre otros– para realizar una reflexión respecto a la configuración del hombre latinoamericano y las contingencias implicadas en tal propuesta. Esa re–apropiación, impregnada por la pregunta acerca de la identidad latinoamericana, coloca a Caliban y Ariel como figuras significativas al momento de revisar la configuración teórico–literaria de las ideas que marcaron el pensamiento de América Latina y que aún señalan la vigencia del conflicto socio–político allí presente.
This paper is presented as an approximation to the Shakespearean play, The Tempest, mainly to analyze the conceptual personae: Caliban and Ariel. In the mid–twentieth century, these characters were taken up by a set of authors – Rodó, Darío, Martí, Césaire, between others– to do a reflection about the configuration of the Latin American man and the contingencies involved in that proposal. This re–appropriation, impregnated by the question of American identity, places to Caliban and Ariel as significant figures at the moment of reviewing the configuration theoretical and literary of the ideas that marked the Latin American thought and that still point the actuality of the sociopolitical conflict present there.
