La producción pictórica colonial en Córdoba, Argentina : Siglos XVI-XVII : apuntes para el estudio

Durante la segunda mitad del año 2007 llevamos adelante un proyecto de conformación de un archivo nominal e iconográfico de pinturas pertenecientes al periodo colonial en la ciudad de Córdoba, Argentina. El objetivo general de este trabajo consistió en contribuir a la conservación y difusión del patrimonio histórico-artístico local a través de un producto que podría alimentar tanto futuras investigaciones cuanto políticas de gestión del mismo. En lo que respecta al arte, el período colonial en Córdoba (siglos XVI al XVIII) se caracterizó por una importante circulación de obras, artistas y estilos, y por la presencia de grandes comitentes activos que dinamizaban dicha circulación. Dentro del amplio campo del arte colonial —que recoge producciones tan diversas como las arquitectónicas, las mobiliarias o las pictóricas— incluimos en el archivo nominal confeccionado sólo las pinturas producidas durante el periodo ya definido. Éstas fueron rastreadas, relevadas e inventariadas de la manera más completa posible en un único registro (lo que denominamos archivo) nominal e iconográfico. En este artículo se presentan algunos de los resultados obtenidos durante la investigación, con una doble finalidad: por un lado, caracterizar el archivo confeccionado evidenciando las operaciones teórico metodológicas que orientaron su producción. Por el otro, realizar un aporte concreto a la historiografía del arte local, en particular al estudio de la producción pictórica colonial en la ciudad de Córdoba de los siglos XVI a XVIII.
During the second half of the year 2007, we carried out a project for the creation of a nominal and iconographic «archive» or inventory of paintings from the Colonial era, in the city of Córdoba, Argentina. The general aim of that work was to contribute to the conservation and dissemination of the artistic and historical heritage through the creation of a tangible object, that could fuel both future research and the future management policies of this heritage. Regarding the arts, the Colonial era in Córdoba (from XVI to XVIII centuries) was characterized by a significant circulation of works of art, artists, and styles, and also by the presence of important and active patrons who contributed to make that circulation more dynamic. Within the wide range of the Colonial arts—which includes disciplines as diverse as architecture, furniture design, and painting—we have only included in our «nominal archive» the paintings created during this well defined period of time. These were traced, surveyed, and inventoried in the most thorough way possible, using a single nominal and iconographic record (what we call «archive»). In this article we present some of the results we have obtained from that research, with two purposes: on one hand, to characterize the resulting «archive» by showing the theoretical and methodological actions that guided its creation. And on the other, to make a tangible contribution to the historiography of the local arts, specifically to the study of the pictorial production of the Colonial era in the city of Córdoba between the centuries XVI and XVIII.
