De Guanacache a la cordillera: la presencia del desierto en la narrativa mendocina

Este trabajo recorre y analiza un conjunto de textos narrativos que, publicados entre los años 50 y 80 del siglo pasado por autores y autoras de Mendoza, localizan la escritura en las zonas desérticas que se despliegan en gran parte de la región cuyana. El objetivo es indagar cómo construyen escenarios e imaginarios diversos sobre el espacio de las travesías y sus habitantes, qué intenciones –políticas y poéticas– persiguen y qué sensibilidades forjan sobre el paisaje humano de la región. Se observa, a pesar de las diferencias compositivas y las elecciones estéticas, un desencanto compartido ante una modernización que no solo no llega a todas partes, sino que produce y profundiza desigualdades.
This paper reviews and analyzes a set of narrative texts that, published in the 60s and 70s of the last century by authors from Mendoza, locate the writing in the desert areas that are spread throughout a large part of “Cuyo” region. The analyzed corpus includes stories and novels by Antonio Di Benedetto, Alberto Rodríguez (h), Iverna Codina, Juan Draghi Lucero and Abelardo Arias. The aim is to investigate how they construct diverse scenarios and imaginaries about the space of “travesías” and its inhabitants, what intentions –political and poetic– they pursue and what sensitivities they forge on the human landscape of the region. Although compositional and aesthetic differences are observed, the texts have in common the location of the fictions in the desert space to reveal the contrasts between center-periphery and the disenchantment face of a modernization that not only does not reach everywhere, but also produces and deepens inequalities.
