La tendencia orientalista en la literatura iberoamericana impacta desde el siglo XVI en el acontecer histórico y socio-político de Iberoamérica. Las imágenes que transmite Cristóbal Colón, influenciadas por la mitología construida desde la Antigüedad sobre las tierras orientales, impregnarán las crónicas de Indias, las noticias del comercio marítimo y el gran relato de la conquista. La confusión colombina atraviesa muchas conexiones culturales posteriores. En el siglo XX, Octavio Paz fue uno de los autores que vivió en distintas ciudades asiáticas como Pablo Neruda, Jorge Luis Borges, Severo Sarduy o Rafael Alberti. Sus poemas, ensayos, narraciones y correspondencia personal han sido recuperados y contribuyen a la investigación integral de los contactos sur-sur. Estas ?representaciones? del continente - que Paz y otros autores llegaron a conocer como diplomáticos, políticos o viajeros-, deben ser integradas a la línea contemporánea de las ?Historias conectadas?.Abstract:The orientalist tendency in Ibero-American literature has impacted from the sixteenth century on the historical and socio-political events of Latin America. The images transmitted by Christopher Columbus, influenced by the mythology built from ancient times on the eastern lands, will permeate the chronicles of the Indies, the news of maritime commerce and the great account of the conquest. The Columbian confusion goes through many later cultural connections. In the 20th century, Octavio Paz was one of the authors who lived in different Asian cities such as Pablo Neruda, Jorge Luis Borges, Severo Sarduy or Rafael Alberti. His poems, essays, narratives and personal correspondence have been recovered and contribute to the comprehensive investigation of South-South contacts. These "representations" of the continent - which Paz and other authors came to know as diplomats, politicians or travelers - must be integrated into into the contemporary line of "Connected Stories".
