El objetivo de este artículo es analizar la imagen del despertar como “despertar de la juventud” en La Bella Durmiente (1911), el primer texto teórico de Walter Benjamin, y mostrar que esta figura no está exenta de una profunda ambigüedad y de contradicciones propias de su “metafísica de la juventud”, forjada en el marco de su participación en el Movimiento Juvenil. La juventud, como sujeto capaz de llevar a cabo transformaciones sociales radicales, debe ser, como la Bella Durmiente, despertada por otro. Esta paradójica pasividad marcaría el destino del Movimiento Juvenil.
In this article I’ll analyze the image of awakening understood as awakening of the youth in Walter Benjamin’s first theoretical work “Sleeping Beauty” (1911) and I will show that this figure is not quite free from the ambiguities and contradictions of the “metaphysics of youth” developed during his commitment with the youth movement. As the subject, who has to carry on radical social changes, the youth has to be awakened by other. This paradox would set the destiny of the youth movement.
