Descripción
This paper discusses the evolution of the Global Pesticide Complex during the last 30 years. We read the development of economic entities as a profoundly uneven spatiotemporal process patterned by intersecting challenges and contradictions which define conjunctural crises. Focusing on “south-south” supply chains, we demonstrate how Chinese producers have profoundly transformed the Global Pesticide Complex, influenced significantly by state interventions. By also analyzing the downstream implications for companies in Argentina, however, we provide nuance to representations of Chinese dominance. Despite their dependent position, Argentinian pesticide producers have room to maneuver. The Argentinian state actively contributes to this dynamic process.
