Apocalipsis y año mil : un estudio acerca de sus representaciones (Siglos VIII-XI)

La literatura apocalíptica judía y cristiana han influido en Occidente a lo largo de los siglos. En algunos momentos, dicha influencia ha sido más fuerte que en otros, pero la idea del fin del mundo y la del Juicio Final han estado presentes en la mentalidad de las sociedades y se han manifestado tanto en los comportamientos individuales y colectivos como en la iconografía y literatura de las diferentes épocas. En el caso de la Edad Media, la creencia en la proximidad del fin de los tiempos convivió con los hombres y mujeres de aquella época y se vio reflejada en sus pensamientos, actividades, temores, esperanzas y oraciones. En esta oportunidad, nos ocupamos de analizar fuentes iconográficas (Beato de Liébana y Beato de Facundo) y relatos de cronistas (Abbon de Fleury, Raúl Glaber y Sigeberto de Gemloux) para comprender e interpretar las representaciones del Apocalipsis desarrolladas entre los siglos VIII y XI.
Jewish and Christian apocalyptic literature has injluenced the West over the centuries. At times this injluence has been stronger than in others, but the idea of the end of the world and of the Last Judgment have been present in the mentality of societies and have manifested themselves both in individual and collective behavior as in iconography and literature from different eras. In the case of the Middle Ages, the belief in the proximity of the end of time lived with the men and women of that time and was reflected in their thoughts, activities, fears, hopes and prayers. On this occasion, we analyze iconographic sources (Beato de Liébana and Beato de Facundo) and chroniclers (Abbon de Fleury, Raúl Glaber and Sigeberto de Gemloux) to understand and interpret the representations of the Apocalypse developed between the eighth and eleventh centuries.
