Causas de ausentismo laboral en trabajadores de frigorífico avícola del sector de empaque

La presente investigación se centra en la salud y seguridad de los trabajadores del sector de empaque de un frigorífico avícola, con el objetivo de analizar las causas de ausentismo y su relación con enfermedades musculoesqueléticas. Los trabajadores de este sector realizan tareas físicamente exigentes y repetitivas, como colgar y recolgar pollo limpio en una noria mecánica, manipulación de herramientas manuales y mantenimiento de posturas incómodas prolongadas, lo que incrementa el riesgo de lesiones de hombro y otras afecciones musculoesqueléticas. El estudio fue de tipo observacional, descriptivo, retrospectivo y transversal, abarcando registros de ausentismo de un año (octubre 2022 - octubre 2023) en trabajadores con al menos un año de antigüedad en el puesto. La investigación se orientó a determinar si las lesiones de hombro constituyen la principal causa de ausentismo y si existe relación con la edad y antigüedad del trabajador. Conclusiones: Las tareas de colgado y recolgado de pollo limpio sobre la línea de los hombros y la repetitividad de los movimientos generan un riesgo elevado de lesiones de hombro, constituyendo la principal causa de ausentismo en el sector de empaque. La edad y la antigüedad en el puesto pueden influir en la aparición de lesiones musculoesqueléticas, incrementando la vulnerabilidad de los trabajadores más antiguos o con mayor tiempo en la misma actividad. La identificación de estas causas permite plantear medidas preventivas, como reorganización de tareas, pausas activas, capacitación en ergonomía y rotación de puestos, con el objetivo de reducir el ausentismo y mejorar la salud ocupacional en la industria avícola.
The present research focuses on the health and safety of workers in the packaging sector of a poultry refrigeration plant, with the objective of analyzing the causes of absenteeism and its relationship with musculoskeletal disorders. Workers in this sector perform physically demanding and repetitive tasks, such as hanging and re-hanging clean chicken on a mechanical overhead conveyor, handling manual tools, and maintaining prolonged uncomfortable postures, which increases the risk of shoulder injuries and other musculoskeletal conditions. The study was observational, descriptive, retrospective, and cross-sectional, covering absenteeism records from one year (October 2022 – October 2023) among workers with at least one year of seniority in the position. The research aimed to determine whether shoulder injuries are the main cause of absenteeism and whether there is a relationship with the worker’s age and length of service. Conclusions The tasks of hanging and re-hanging clean chicken above shoulder level and the repetitiveness of the movements generate a high risk of shoulder injuries, constituting the main cause of absenteeism in the packaging sector. Age and job seniority may influence the occurrence of musculoskeletal injuries, increasing the vulnerability of older workers or those with longer time in the same activity. The identification of these causes makes it possible to propose preventive measures such as task reorganization, active breaks, ergonomics training, and job rotation, with the objective of reducing absenteeism and improving occupational health in the poultry industry.
