Pleurodema bufonina Bell, anfibio australe con ciclo spermatogenetico discontinuo autoregolato

Pleurodema bufonina della regione patagónica presenta un ciclo spermatoge- netico discontinuo, con stasi, invernale (autunno-invernale) della gametogenesi, analoga a quella di Rana temporaria. Temperature ottime, nei primi mesi della stasi, non possono riattivare l’onda spermatogenetica, osservandosi nei tubuli seminiferi solamente spermi e protogoni. Le altre specie del genere Pleurodema finora studiate (cinereo, tucumana, e anche bibroni, di cui si dà qui un quadro generale del ciclo spermatogenetico) appartengono al tipo funzionale con gametogenesi potenzialmente continua. Si analizzano le condizioni di parallelismo adattativo e di distribuzione geografica (bipolarità ) presentate dai generi Rana c Pleurodema nei due distinti emisferi.
Adult males of Pleurodema bufonina from the Patagonic region were found to show a discontinous type of gametogenesis with a stasis period during the winter months (autumn - winter) as in Rana temporaria. Attempts te restore spermatogenesis by increasing the temperature to the optimal values during the first months of the stasis period, must be considered unsuccessful as only protogonia and mature sperm cells were found in the seminiferous tubules of the investigated animals. All other species so far studied from the genus Pleurodema (cinerea, tucu— mana, and even bibroni, the spermatogenetic cycle of wich is described in general wise here) were found to show a potentially continous type of gametogenesis. Conditions of adaptive parallelism and geographical distribution (bipolarity) in the genera Rana and Pleurodema of the two emispheres are discussed and analyzed.
