Bienestar subjetivo y crecimiento económico: analizando la paradoja del crecimiento infeliz en la Encuesta Mundial Gallup

La “paradoja del crecimiento infeliz” que encuentran tanto Deaton (2008) como Lora y Chaparro (2008) es inconsistente con la literatura previa en términos del impacto del ingreso sobre el bienestar en el corto plazo. En este trabajo se realiza una contribución a esta rama de la literatura incorporando alternativamente indicadores de desigualdad, y la dimensión temporal del bienestar subjetivo en el análisis de corte transversal a nivel agregado. Del segundo ejercicio se concluye que los resultados de la Encuesta Mundial Gallup se vuelven compatibles con la literatura previa en el corto plazo al especificar correctamente la relación.
The "unhappy growth paradox" found by Deaton (2008) and Lora and Chaparro (2008) is inconsistent with the previous literature in terms of the impact of income on well-being in the short term. This paper contributes to this strand of literature incorporating alternatively, inequality indicators and time dimension of subjective well-being in the cross-sectional analysis at the aggregate level. The second exercise shows that the results in the Gallup World Poll return to be consistent with previous literature in the short term when the correctly specification of the relationship is set.
