El trabajo pone en diálogo el ensayo “La guagua aérea” (1983) del puertorriqueño Luis Rafael Sánchez y la película que, basada en él, con su mismo nombre, produjo el boricua Luis Molina Casanova en 1993. Examina algunas de las variaciones más significativas en la adaptación del texto base (entre otras, desplazamiento cronológico, alteración del foco y el esquema narrativo, selección de personajes, recorte y expansión de escenas) con el propósito de mensurar los sentidos diferenciados que irradian los textos sobre los modos de concebir y configurar la nación y la identidad cultural puertorriqueñas.
The work puts into dialogue the essay “La guagua aérea” (1983) by the Puerto Rican Luis Rafael Sánchez and the film which, based on it and with the same name, was produced by the Puerto Rican Luis Molina Casanova in 1993. Some of the most significant variations introduced in the base text (among others, chronological displacement, alteration of the focus and the narrative outline, character selection, cutout and expansion of scenes) are examined with the purpose of measuring the differentiated meanings the texts radiate about the ways of conceiving and configuring the Puerto Rican nation and cultural identity.
