Descripción
The purpose of this chapter is to develop the postulates of Tianxia as a philosophical and geopolitical platform in the current international scenario. In this regard, we aim to trace and identify these geo-political correlates in five (5) elements of the international stage, thus overcoming the abstract perspective that theories often assume. This is particularly relevant since Tianxia is not present in geopolitical agendas as a consolidated theory, nor is it widely disseminated—at least in the West. Therefore, we will begin with some ideas from Zhao Tingyang (2021), as presented in his book Tianxia: A Philosophy for Global Governance. Building on this proposal, we will explore five (5) elements of the international scenario in which the Tianxia system may be at play. Among them, we will focus on: (1) globalization with Chinese characteristics, (2) infrastructure as a platform for development, (3) foreign policy, (4) global governance, and (5) geopolitics. Nonetheless, we will first introduce the concept of Tianxia, and then proceed to address each of the aforementioned elements individually, concluding with a comprehensive reading of the subject.
