Patrones de actividad y abundancias relativas en un lagarto del noroeste argentino, <i>Liolaemus quilmes</i> (Iguania: liolaemidae)

Se investigaron los patrones de actividad y las abundancias relativas en el lagarto neotropical Liolaemus quilmes, Liolaemidae, en una localidad del noroeste argentino, a fin de estimar variaciones poblacionales entre años y a fin de averiguar si existen diferencias en el número de machos y de hembras entre la época reproductiva y la post-reproductiva. Para ello, se seleccionó y cuadriculó un sitio de 50x50m dentro de la distribución de la especie. Se realizaron censos periódicos mediante avistajes, en distintos momentos de la primavera y verano de tres años consecutivos. Los machos salieron de hibernación en septiembre seguidos por las hembras uno a dos meses después. Luego ambos fueron encontrados en cantidades similares aunque, hacia el otoño, las hembras se hicieron más abundantes que los machos en dos de los tres años de estudio. No hubo diferencias significativas en el número de machos y hembras encontrados durante los tres años de estudio, indicando una población estable. Se encontraron significativamente más hembras durante la época post-reproductiva que durante la reproductiva y hubo significativamente más machos que hembras durante la época reproductiva. Estas diferencias reflejan diferentes necesidades en machos y hembras lo cual a su vez repercute en sus estrategias reproductivas respectivas.
Activity patterns and relative abundances were investigated in the neotropical lizard, Liolaemus quilmes, Liolaemidae, at a site in Northwestern Argentina, to estimate population variations between years and to determine whether differences exist in the number of males and females during the reproductive and post-reproductive seasons. For this, a site 50x50m was selected and marked within the distribution of this species. Periodic censuses were made using visual encounters, during different periods of the spring and summer of three consecutive years. Males came out of hibernation in September followed by females one to two months later. Later both were found in similar quantities although, towards the fall, females became more abundant than males in two of the three years of the study. There were no significant differences in the number of males and females found during the three years of the study, indicating a stable population. Significantly more females were found during the post-reproductive than during the reproductive season and there were significantly more males than females during the reproductive season. These differences reflect different needs in males and females which in turn affects their respective reproductive strategies.
