Perceptions of the future: projections of computer-science students from an intersectional gender perspective

This empirical-analytical work intends to diagnose the imagined future of students studying Computer Engineering and Systems Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering (UNJu) to know their expectations, uncertainties, aspirations, and hopes from a gender perspective. We applied the notion of Future Temporal Perspective (FTP), which is closely associated with the socio-cultural context of the subject and the stage in which the subject is. With the mixed methodological strategy (qualitative/quantitative), we seek an analysis in two dimensions, on the one hand, about the expectations of the entire population studied, and on the other, to evaluate whether there are differences between the responses according to gender. The first results indicate that, regardless of gender, there is a concern about employment in computer science that goes hand in hand with the medium-high motivation to finish the degree. Particularly interesting are the female voices about recognizing their cultural context (Jujuy, Andean area), the concern for technological progress, and care for the environment.
En este trabajo empírico analítico proponemos realizar un diagnóstico sobre el futuro imaginado de las personas estudiantes que están cursando las carreras de Ingeniería Informática y la Licenciatura de Sistemas en la Facultad de Ingeniería (UNJu) con el fin de conocer sus expectativas, incertidumbres, aspiraciones y esperanzas desde la perspectiva de género. Aplicamos la noción de la Perspectiva Temporal Futura (PTF) que está estrechamente asociada al contexto socio-cultural del sujeto y la etapa en que el mismo se encuentra. Con la estrategia metodológica mixta (cualitativa/cuantitativa), buscamos un análisis en dos dimensiones, por un lado, acerca de las expectativas de toda la población estudiada y, por el otro, evaluar si hay diferencias entre las respuestas según el género. Los primeros resultados señalan que, independientemente del género, existe la preocupación sobre la inserción laboral en el área de la informática que va a la par con la media-alta motivación de finalizar la carrera. Particularmente interesantes son las voces femeninas en relación con el reconocimiento de su entorno cultural situado (Jujuy, área andina), la preocupación por el avance tecnológico y el cuidado del medio ambiente.
