El canto del cisne: del cancionero a "La Celestina"

La imaginería animalística tiene una no despreciable presencia en la poesía cancioneril del siglo XV castellano pero es particularmente llamativa la abundancia de referencias a animales en "La Celestina", de Fernando de Rojas, como ha señalado Joseph Snow en un reciente artículo (2021). El presente estudio se enfoca en un animal en particular, el cisne. Luego de esbozar brevemente la historia de la leyenda del cisne y su canto antes de morir, nos abocaremos a relevar su presencia en el cancionero castellano, y analizar su funcionalidad en los textos y las formas en que los poetas se apropian del mito del ave. A partir de este análisis, y considerando estos usos como parte del contexto literario en el que Rojas escribió la "Tragicomedia" intentaremos interpretar el significado del cisne en ella y ponerlo en relación con otras metáforas animales y con la hermenéutica general de la obra.
Animalistic imagery has a not insignificant presence in fifteenth-century Castilian "Cancionero" poetry, but the abundance of references to animals in "La Celestina", by Fernando de Rojas, is particularly striking, as Joseph Snow has pointed out in a recent article (2021). The present study focuses on one animal in particular, the swan. After briefly outlining the history of the legend of the swan and its song before dying, we will focus on highlighting its presence in the Spanish "Cancionero", and analyze its functionality in the texts and the ways in which poets appropriate the myth of the bird. From this analysis, and considering these uses as part of the literary context in which Rojas wrote the Tragicomedy, we will try to interpret the meaning of the swan in it and put it in relation with other animal metaphors and with the general hermeneutics of the work.
